TRY telling the Port's oldest resident Kitty Wilson that she is an exceptional woman - she won't have it.
Hostel two at Shoal Bay's Harbourside Haven Village was adorned in pink and blue on Tuesday as more than 50 residents, family and guests packed the common area to celebrate her 106th birthday.
Despite tributes and well wishes pouring in from state and federal politicians, including the Prime Minister, Ms Wilson demanded "I'm just another regular old person."
But there was nothing particularly old about the way Ms Wilson walked unassisted around the Shoal Bay village on Tuesday; upbeat and cheerful, chatting to fellow residents and staff.
"She is a perfect example of how we can grow old with grace," Harbourside Haven chief executive officer Louise Watters said.
Ms Wilson, born in the southern NSW town of Tumut in 1904, said her longevity could be attributed to basic good health and a grateful approach to life. "Just take things as they come and be happy with it," she said.
Minister for Ageing Justine Elliot attended the function on Tuesday and said
