WITH 50,000 people expected to attend the next month's huge air show at Williamtown, the Department of Defence is confident it can handle the influx.
According to the head of special events air commodore, Phil Byrne, the event will draw huge crowds and he believes the management plan in place will work.
"We have a new road and land donated by the council...we have VMS [variable message signs] signs that can be controlled and changed and an increased police presence," he said.
Port council has provided land adjacent to the RAAF base for parking and a total of six entrances will be open to the base, including a new one off Cabbage Tree Road.
Commodore Byrne assured the Examiner that a noise management plan had been created to ensure the show did not unduly affect residential areas.
"It is only the people living directly next to the air base that will be affected and we will be contacting them," he said.
Newcastle Airport has also taken the influx of people into account for its flights over the weekend of September 18 and 19.
Jetstar corporate communications adviser Andrea Wait said the company was making minor schedule adjustments to flight times.
The aim was to give ticket holders more time to get to the airport over the two days.
"We are encouraging people to see the airshow," she said.
"But they should remember to check-in earlier for their flight."
