Appeal on Windeyers Creek pollution source

10 Mar, 2010 10:19 AM
PORT Stephens Council officers are checking for the source of pollution in Windeyers Creek at Raymond Terrace.

The council has recommended against swimming at the junction of the creek with the Hunter River following water quality tests indicated elevated levels of faecal pollution.

Further checks have ruled out a Hunter Water sewage treatment plant as the pollution source.

The council's environmental services officer, Bruce Petersen, appealed for the public's help to locate the pollution source. He said poorly functioning on-site sewage systems, fertiliser from gardens or agricultural activities could be among the causes.
