Back to school for Port students

01 Feb, 2012 12:00 AM
IT'S a mixed bag of steady and staggered when it comes to enrolment numbers across the Port's high schools this year.

Some enrolments remained on par with 2011, others were up or down, and for a couple, it was simply too early to tell.

At St Philip's Christian College a total of 766 students entered the new school year this week up 35 on last year.

About 73 of those enrolled in year seven.

At Tomaree High School, numbers are down, just.

School principal Peter Partridge said enrolments "were down a touch" with a large contingent of year 12 students leaving last year.

Upwards of 1250 students were enrolled from kindergarten to year 12.

The school's year seven advisor Shane Dagwell said there was a mix of anxiety and nerves for both parents and their children on Monday.

'They [students] come to me for help, but most have settled in well," he said. Medowie Christian School registrar Cara Dickey said numbers remained steady - for Irrawang High and Hunter River High it was too early to report.
