Chance to wrap up this Christmas

Chance to wrap up this Christmas

16 Dec, 2009 09:53 AM
WRAPPING your Christmas gifts can be a laborious and expensive finale to months of shopping.

So one Port church group has set up shop at the Salamander Shopping Centre, wrapping Christmas presents for a small donation.

It is the fifth year the Beachside Christian Fellowship has been invited back to the retail hnub to take the sting out of Christmas preparation for time-poor shoppers.

The service is run entirely by volunteers from the church and lasts right up until Christmas.

All funds will be donated to support the operation of the Bethel Children's Home in Sri Lanka.

Shoppers do not even have to bring their own wrapping materials as the bulk of it is donated by the shopping centre.

I think Kyla Bailey is a little confused over what Christmas is about. ("Letters", Non believers not impressed. Dec 17) Carols are songs, songs in this instance directed to acknowledging the birth of the Saviour, Jesus the Christ, hence the term Christ-Mass. These "Carols" are religous in nature, as a study of the words would show, they illustrate the circumstances and nature of his birth. His birth, to Christians, is an important event, hence the mode of worship, carol singing. Santa Clause has no connection, other than a commercial one, to Christmas, and jingle bells is certainly not a hymn of worship. I acknowledge that the spirit of Christmas, and indeed Easter, has been hi-jacked by worldly interests, as reflected in your comments. However the hand of fellowship is extended to all, Pagans and sinners alike, so feel free to participate in a religous festival, but please don't try to hi-jack it.
