Council backs Medowie Anna Bay sporting clubs

25 Aug, 2010 01:00 AM
PORT Stephens councillors are being asked to fast-track efforts to build licensed sports clubs at Medowie and Anna Bay.

Port Stephens Mayor Bruce MacKenzie raised the issue with a notice of motion tabled at Tuesday night's council meeting.

He wanted unallocated section 94 funds of $700,000 divided between the three council wards.

Central ward could get about $30,000 to have concept plans drawn up for a club to be developed on sporting grounds off Ferodale Road.

"The council can find funds over the next two years to start construction on the club," he said.

"It would have bowling greens and other things the people want."

Cr MacKenzie said the development of a similar club on Fisherman's Road at Anna Bay was also long overdue.

"The committee out there has been working hard toward this and if we can use $500,000 of revenue from our caravan parks to get it started then it will be great and they can secure the funds needed to keep going through a loan," Cr MacKenzie said.
