Crossed paths as two share in the limelight

28 Apr, 2010 10:47 AM
A CASE of crossed paths resulted in Irrawang High teacher Jennifer Noone receiving a highly-coveted award. It was the University of Newcastle vice chancellor's school teacher award which was presented earlier this month.

"Getting recognised for the work you do is always nice, it usually just happens on the street when you run into past students and they let you know of their successes, not at a graduation ceremony in front of hundreds of people," Ms Noone said.

She was nominated by one of her past students from Hunter River High, Kristienne Thomas.

"Her commitment to her job and her passion is what inspires me most," Ms Thomas said.

It was this inspiration which led Ms Thomas to become a teacher graduating earlier this month with first class honours in a Bachelor of Teaching and a Bachelor of Design and Technology.

With their paths crossing so often it was only fitting the two shared their time in the limelight, with Ms Noone collecting her teaching award and Ms Thomas taking out the education and arts faculty medal.
