A NEW advisory group has joined the growing opposition to plans which propose four and five storey development along the Nelson Bay foreshore and in Apex Park.
The latest opposition to the proposals, from a consultant reporting to Port Stephens Council for its 2030 town strategy, comes from the recently-formed Nelson Bay Town and Foreshore Advisory Group.
"The advisory group rejects this as completely inappropriate and a real threat to the continued prosperity of the town," in a release issued this week.
This week advisory group chairman Michael Aylmer said the opposition had already been communicated to the council with other specific recommendations.
It would also raise the issue at a meeting with the NSW Government's Land and Property Management Authority which had control over the foreshore.
Mr Aylmer said there were also concerns the council's long-awaited 2030 plan and its new design and other codes would not apply to development on the waterfront or in Apex Park.
"Even if the council cannot control what happens on the foreshore Crown land, it can try to influence it with a revised 2030 strategy that supports the continued health of the town centre," he said.
