Funk and Grooves set to be a charismatic day

01 Sep, 2010 09:45 AM
THE Funk and Grooves festival is on again in the Hunter Valley set to be a sunny day of music in the vines.

The festival is on September 11 at Pokolbin with a line-up to be envied and the Examiner has a double pass to giveaway, follow the competition links to enter.

One of the more eccentric choices for the show is Bertie Blackman a folk-inspired artist who first released an album in 2004.

The charismatic singer and songwriter has plans to release a new album soon.

‘‘I have been up to nothing much, taking candy from babies and writing a new album,’’ she said.

Evolution is a large part of Blackman’s music which she hopes to showcase at the festival.

‘‘Well life is ever evolving, ever turning in a field of dark damp terror, consumed by our hidden demons,’’ she said.

Of course it is not all poetic phrases of doom with Blackman, she has a fun side too.

When asked about her plans for the show she said ‘I’m going to shave one eyebrow and present the new Bertie mascot to the world’.

With this in mind head to the Funk and Grooves festival for some eyebrow shaving fun.
