16 Mar, 2011 01:54 PM
A Great White is beleived to be responsible for a shark attack at Jimmys Beach which left a woman with serious face and arm injuries on Wednesday.

A shark biologist from Industry and Investment NSW has studied the attack pattern and photographs of the victim's wounds, however investigations are continuing.

A 24-year-old woman is in John Hunter Hospital with serious injuries to her face, neck and arms following a shark attack in Port Stephens.

An Ambulance NSW spokesperson said the woman had been wakeboarding before she was attacked around 12.45pm near Jimmys Beach.

She was rushed by boat to the public wharf at Nelson Bay where she was treated by paramedics.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Bill Strong Oval before being airlifted to hospital.

The attack reportedly occurred after the woman came off a wakeboard and was twice dragged under water by the shark.

Authorities could not confirm what type of shark attacked the woman.
