THE John Butler Trio has just announced its April Uprising Australian tour which kicks off in August.
The boys will stop in Newcastle on September 7 playing at the Entertainment Centre.
Tickets are available through Ticketek but head to the Examiner website to win a double pass.
This tour not only has the usual environmentally friendly message but the logistics of the tour are also carbon neutral with a green ticket option for audience members.
According to the band the average travel emissions of a concert goer is 0.0227 tonnes of CO2.
For this reason money will be donated to renewable energy projects to offset the emissions.
The April Uprising album was released this year hitting the charts at number one with singles such as Revolution and One Way Road.
As the face of the trio Butler is known for his lyrical messages and alternative lifestyle, being one of the first Australian artists to successfully release an independent album.
‘‘My idea of revolution is basically taking the R off the word – it’s evolution,’’ he said of the Revolution single. ‘‘Knowing that the revolution is underway and not some fantasy about to come I’m able to have the energy and optimism to keep being part of this eternal, unstoppable revolution.’’
Currently, Melbourne musician Nicky Bomba and bass player Byron Luiters from Sydney outfit Ray Mann Three make up the trio.
The title of the album came about after Butler unearthed his ancestry.
He discovered his Bulgarian ties following them to a descendant caught up in a violent revolt called the April Uprising.
This album is a new journey for John Butler and a musical journey for the trio.
