RAYMOND Terrace's King Street has been transformed from its often quiet location into a main street in country Victoria.
The change comes as the filming of the new Australian movie, Tomorrow: When the War Began, commenced in Raymond Terrace on Monday.
On Monday and Tuesday road blocks were set up and King Street was closed for filming between 6am and 10pm each day.
For the next few months King Street will be known as Main Street, Wirrawee, the fictional town from the novel.
The film, based on the popular book and series by author John Marsden, is the story of a group of teenager's guerrilla war efforts against foreign invaders who have taken over Australia.
It is estimated the film will generate nearly $60 million in economic activity and create about 200 jobs.
Owner of Leo's Takeaway Teresa Barath said the filming had been a boost for trade in the town.
"We have probably doubled our business in the month that work has been going on there" she said.
"It's been more business, more sandwiches and not just once a day, twice a day morning tea and lunch."
Since the beginning of September carpenters and builders have been hard at work transforming King Street.
The Youthie has been changed into a cinema, 21 King Street has been made over into an Asian Restaurant and 9 King Street is an office. Other changes include a Bendigo Bank, a chemist, bakery and a hotel bistro. Staff from Steve Bates First National have also passed as extras for the film and staff from Julie's Hair Affair on William Street will also play a part.
