WHEN depression struck twice in Shane Goodwin's family, he turned to Lifeline to help tackle the issue and now he is walking Kokoda to help raise money for the cause.
The 32 year old from Anna Bay saw first hand the impacts depression had on his wife's two uncles.
Mr Goodwin will embark on an 11-day trek on the Kokoda Track headed up by Lifeline ambassador and former Australian Wallaby Joe Roff.
He will join 20 others taking part in the charity trek in April.
"Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 44," he said.
Mr Goodwin is aiming to raise $8000 which will go directly toward the suicide prevention organisation, Lifeline.
On top of the funds, Mr Goodwin is paying his own way while a daily walk up Anna Bay's sand hills has been a part of his training regime.
Donations for the cause can be made by visiting the secure online fundraising page http://lifelinekokoda2012.gofundr aise.com.au/page/GoodwinS, or dropping into the ANZ Salamander Bay branch and mentioning the appeal.
