Life and death situation for Raymond Terrace vet

28 Jul, 2010 12:00 AM
IF it is a life and death drama for your pet chances are it will be in good hands if treated by Wendy Fisher.

Ms Fisher, from the Irrawang Veterinary Clinic at Raymond Terrace, has just taken out top place in a small animal emergency and critical care course.

It was tackled by 30 of her veterinary surgeon peers from across Australia and New Zealand.

"It is exciting work because the decisions you make are the difference between life and death," Ms Fisher said.

The varied nature of the job and a passion for animals is what led Ms Fisher to becoming a vet and she has saved many lives during her 13 years in the industry.

The most common emergencies dealt with by the vets at the clinic are animals hit by cars and pets that have been accidentally poisoned.

"We have emergency drugs, specialty machines, blood for transfusions and well-trained staff to deal with it," she said.

Ms Fisher is now looking to take her career overseas when she moves to England next year.
