RAYMOND Terrace is set to have its own stationery and office supply superstore after a development application to build a $2 million Officeworks was lodged with Port Stephens Council.
If approved the Officeworks, part of the Wesfarmers Group, would operate from 36 Carmichael Street with frontage onto 31 Port Stephens Street - one of the town's fastest growing commercial retail strips.
It is the same street which houses other recent developments including Dan Murphys, Aldi and the Department of Community Services (DOCS) new building.
Port Stephens mayor Bob Westbury and deputy mayor Ken Jordan welcomed the proposed development.
"I think its a great spot," Cr Jordan said.
"It's becoming a commercial precint," Cr Westbury said.
The complex is proposed for a 2600 square metre block with gross floor area of 1530 square meters with a 57 car spaces provided underground and to one side of the building.
An existing cottage on the site will be demolished as part of the work.
When operating 17 full-time jobs will be created with another 10 part-time positions.
Proposed operating times are Monday to Friday 7am to 9pm, Saturday 8am to 6pm and Sunday 9am to 6pm.
Already the application has progressed through a number of stages in the council's planning department and advertisement of the development application closed yesterday.
