Port Stephens share of $5.6m contract

TAYLORS Beach engineering company C-E Solutions has hitched a ride with a major Department of Defence contractor.

C-E Solutions this month signed a deal with UK and US defence contractor QinetiQ.

The company has a $5.6 million contract with the Department of Defence to upgrade the Woomera testing range.

The Port company's role is to replace a vintage 1960s intercom system to improve communication on the ground, and from ground to air, at the South Australian range.

More than 200 hand sets, head sets and intercom outlets will be installed as part of the new system.

C-E Solutions will also provide a new display system for the mission control centre. Twenty-one different monitors will display footage from 60 surveillance, tracking and speed cameras at the range.

"There are only a few of these really big defence contractors, so we're excited to be involved," the company's general manager Boris Novak said.

The contract should create more Port jobs.

"We are actually recruiting right now," he said.

"This contract is further evidence of the real capability we have here."
