Remembrance Day across Port Stephens

04 Nov, 2009 11:40 AM
THE tragedy of war and sacrifice men and women across the world make in the name of their country will be remembered at a variety of services across Port Stephens next Wednesday.

Remembrance Day ceremonies are held at 11am on November 11 each year - the time and date World War I officially ended.

The Hunter Region Botanic Gardens will host a ceremony at the site of its Lone Pine with former NSW Governor Rear Admiral Peter Sinclair among the guests.

A barbecue sausage sizzle will follow the event and all are welcome to attend.

RAAF Base Williamtown will supply catafalque parties to most of the Port's services.

The sub-branch at Nelson Bay has asked people to assemble at the cenotaph at 10.40am for its popular service while those attending the Tilligerry Peninsula service should be at the sports club at 10.30am.

At Medowie, the service is due to begin at 10.45am at the recently unveiled monument.

Karuah's service will be at the waterfront memorial and include local school children.
