ROCK and roll never dies, proven by The Screaming Jets who are still pulling crowds in the hundreds.
The band is performing at Club Lemon Tree on Saturday and the gig is on its way to being sold out.
The legendary Jets sprung to fame after winning Triple J’s National Battle Of The Bands competition in the late 80s.
Over the years there has been alternate band members and several shows with the group releasing its sixth album in 2008.
According to guitarist Paul Woseen there is nothing better than playing to a crowd and seeing both young and old singing along to all of the songs.
‘‘I think we have stayed strong because we have a catalogue of great songs, a dynamic show and a band that has never shied away from playing in all regions of the country which has left us a good legacy,’’ he said.
Woseen along with Scott Kingman, Dave Gleeson, Izzy Osmanovich and Mickl Sayers enjoy commanding the stage and are well rehearsed with crowds having previously played shows to more than 42, 000 people.
‘‘We all love to play music it is such a great release of emotion and fun,’’ he said.
Woseen recalls taking up singing when he was five to help with his asthma.
He said he would go to church with his grandfather and sing the hymns before he eventually moved on to rock and roll.
True to form the Jets are setting out to fly by the seat of their pants when they come to the Port.
‘‘We have nothing planned we will just see what happens at the time we are spontaneous combustible rock,’’ he said.
