Shop dollars injected back into Port community

08 Feb, 2012 12:00 AM
PROCEEDS from All Saints Anglican Church's Nelson Bay op-shop continue to be reinvested into the community after the group donated $2000 to help prevent suicide in the Port.

The Nelson Bay Anglican Church started operating the old Samaritans op shop in July last year after it was deemed too costly to operate by the welfare group.

But now Maggie Dominey, secretary of the All Saints Parish Council said the shop is "chock-a-block full" and going well with a $2000 donation to Port Stephens Suicide Prevention Network last week.

"Finally the proceeds of the op-shop are returned to the community in which we live," she said.

While the op shop is doing well Ms Dominey said about four more volunteers were needed. She encouraged all to shop at the op shop to support the Port cause.

"It takes hard work continually sorting through the items and to turn one person's cast offs into another's treasure but we do it well," she said.

Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Ms Dominey on 49811 466.

$2000 was also given to the PNG to build a well. Thanks should also go to the ladies who volunteer and who work so hard to keep the shop looking neat and tidy and who go out of their way to make customers feel welcome, and of course our favourite regular customers and donaters.
