Three police recruits join our Port beat

01 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
HUGH Boyd may have found success in his previous career in client management but it was a desire to make an impact on his community that saw him join the police force. He is one of three new probationary constables to join the Port Stephens Command after graduating from the Goulburn academy last week.

The trio is set to have a tough year ahead of them as they juggle completing their university course as part of their police college studies, adjusting to shift work and performing the gamut of police duties.

"I know people say they join because it was always something they wanted to do, but that was exactly how it was for me," constable Boyd said.

"I had an uncle who was a sergeant at Waratah and I guess that also fostered the desire too."

Constable Boyd said his previous career took him across NSW and kept him busy, but it also provided valuable life experience needed for police life.

"Hopefully I can use my time on general duties to gain more experience and figure out which way I want to go," he said.
