Versatile band performance at Tomaree

28 Jul, 2010 09:26 AM
A VERSATILE ensemble of musicians are performing at Tomaree Education Centre on August 7.

The Australian Army Band Newcastle and the School Regional Wind Ensemble are coming together for a concert with woodwind, brass, percussion and electrical instruments as well as vocalists.

The Australian Army Band is an Army Reserve band made up of 25 reserve members and two Regular Army cadre staff.

It plays public concerts, military parades and ceremonial activities.

Band Sergeant Major Rod Fry said audiences always enjoy the band’s performances because of its versatility in musical styles and genres.

Lyn Cook coordinator of the School Regional Wind Ensemble agreed that versatility was the key when it came to performances.

‘‘The ensemble play pieces of many styles including movie themes, symphonic wind works, Australian ballads, marches and popular songs,’’ she said.

All money raised at the concert will be donated to legacy.
