Volgren buses roll out at Tomago

27 Jan, 2010 04:57 PM
THE first Volgren bus manufactured at a new $18 million Tomago site is expected to roll out in about a month.

The bus manufacturing plant will produce 150 articulated, or 'bendy', buses as part of a $112 million State Government contract.

Plant operations manager Jason Williams said the company had throughout December completed the move from its former Islington site to the new Tomago location.

"It is approximately on schedule," he said.

"We are still finding our feet but are currently hiring more employees and expect to have about 100 people working here within the next two months."

He said job opportunities existed in trade and non-trade positions. The company produced its first NSW manufactured bus in June last year from its former Islington site. Mr Williams said the company would complete the 150-bus contract by June 2011.
