Your say on Tanilba access

01 Feb, 2012 12:00 AM
A CHANGE of access points to the Tanilba Bay Foreshore will be the topic of an upcoming community meeting and Port Stephens residents are being encouraged to come along and have their say.

The call comes as part of Port Stephens Council's Tanilba Bay foreshore erosion management plan, prepared by SMEC Consultancy, which proposes that access points to the foreshore change in a bid prevent erosion.

The council is hosting the information evening to be held at the Tanilba Bay Community Hall on Thursday, February 9 at 6pm.

At the moment the Tanilba Bay Foreshore erosion is caused mainly by natural wind, tide and wave movements with sand moving primarily from the west to the east of the foreshore.

During the years several erosion control works have been put in place but are now in stages of disrepair.

In a bid to stop this movement of sand the management plan proposes to replace existing vertical walls and rubble with a vegetated seawalls and to remove existing dumped rock and create small headlands and several pocket beaches.
