Athletics records set at Raymond Terrace carnival

16 Dec, 2009 10:48 AM
ALL 10 Athletics Centres from the Port Hunter Zone competed at host Centre Raymond Terrace last weekend in the annual Zone Little Athletics Championships.

In warm, but otherwise perfect conditions 350 athletes from six years to 16 years of age, vied for the chance to progress to the Regional Championships at Tamworth in February.

Forty-two Raymond Terrace athletes represented the centre with 29 of them qualifying in 72 events to compete at Tamworth. Raymond Terrace finished third in both the overall point score and handicap point score.

The Under 7 athletes, who do not progress further, were presented with medals after their events. The sole Under 7 medal winner for Raymond Terrace was Thomas Bray, who won a Gold and 3 Silver medals.

Two record breakers for the centre were Under 12 Katie Smee in the 200m in a time of 28.6 seconds; and Under 17 Brandon Donkin who smashed the triple jump record by 80cm with a jump of 13.47m.

The Junior Girls' and the Junior Boys' relay teams finished a commendable 2nd and 3rd respectively. Unfortunately, only the winning team goes on to Tamworth.
