WALLAROO State Forest will again offer something different for the fun-run community on May 16.
The annual Wallaroo State Forest Fun Run will this year include a 10km, 6km and 2km race through the fire trails of the forest, which has played host to the event for more than 20 years.
Age groups will accommodate racers from four years and up, with runners as old as 70 taking part in previous events.
The School Challenge Trophy will also be held again this year, with Stockton Public School returning to defend the title.
Raymond Terrace Athletics Centre (RTAC) organise the event each year and secretary Deidre Hall said fun runs are a fading tradition.
"They seem to be a dying breed and I think it's largely because of insurance, but we are already an athletics club so we don't have to worry too much about that," she said.
Around 100 runners usually attend from across the Hunter, as well as the occasional interstate and Sydney-based entrant.
This year RTAC is offering a free t-shirt to early entrants who register by close of business on Friday, but entries will be accepted up until 30 minutes before each race.
