Jake stars for Port Stephens Athletics

24 Feb, 2010 11:15 AM
IT MIGHT not be the Port's athletics heavyweight, but the Port Stephens Little Athletics Club flexed what muscle it had against regional opponents last weekend.

Salamander Bay's Jake Rudge starred for the club at the Little Athletics Regional Championships at Tamworth on Saturday and Sunday.

He bettered his own regional record in the under 17 boys 1500m walk by six seconds to win gold.

The time of 7 minutes and 10 seconds will also save Rudge a spot in the Little Athletics Australia NSW State Championships at Sydney Olympic Park on March 21.

This is the 16-year-old's eleventh and final year of little athletics before he takes the leap into the Athletics NSW senior ranks in 2011.

Nine club mates joined Rudge at the championships including Jessica Linz, Ryan Haywood, Alexander Dorrity, Erin Smith, Connor Linz, Andrew Rudge, Thomas Hatzis and Ella Perry.
