Sam's 100th game

05 Aug, 2009 01:45 PM
NELSON Bay junior rugby union player Sam Rocher achieved a milestone recently, playing his 100th game for the club.

The 16 year-old clocked up his century of union on July 25, having played for the side for for seven years.

He began his campaign with the Gropers in 2002 playing for the under 10s and has since worked his way up to captain the undefeated under 16s side.

"Being captain is something I'm proud of, but it was the team that voted me in ," he said.

A dedicated team member, Sam runs water for the younger grades on the weekends and is always keen to back up after his game to play for the older grades.

Sam said while his sights were not set on turning professional when he gets older, the sport was something he loved.

"I don't think I'll turn pro, I just like my team mates and getting out there on Saturday morning and playing," he said.

"I want to just keep having fun and playing for the Gropers."
