The Fingal Mile Ocean Swim was held for the second consecutive year on January 7, drawing 160 competitors to more than double on last year's turnout.
Organiser Kate Preston said she was "really happy" with the turnout and intends on expanding the competition in the coming years.
"We were sort of hoping for that, definitely, we wanted to double on last year and we've done that," she said.
"The club aims to develop the event in 2013 and [we] are looking for a sponsor to assist with the development.
"All members worked really well and the club has received lots of comments from competitors on how well the swim was run and how friendly the members were."
Ms Preston said the club would look at staggering starting times in the future to allow competitors to compete in both the 850metre and one mile swims.
Stewart McLachlan from Redhead was first among the men, finishing in 18 minutes and 51 seconds.
Merewether resident Shelly Clark was the first female competitor to finish in 19 minutes and 32 seconds.
