Young athlete will do her best

Young athlete will do her best

20 Aug, 2009 01:00 AM

TEN-year-old Lauren Moore is set to be the youngest athlete to represent the Hunter when she competes at the National All Schools Cross Country Championships this month.

But the Shoal Bay Public School student has no intention of letting age get in her way when she takes her place on the starting line for the two kilometre individual run and the 1500 metre relay.

"I'm not sure how I'll go, under 10s is the first year you can compete,"Lauren said.

"I'm just going to try my best and see how I go."

Lauren was one of five youngsters selected across the Hunter to compete in the under 10s age group at the national tournament, held in Nowra from August 28 to 31t.

Her selection came following an impressive performance at the NSW Cross Country Championships in July.

But despite already showing a wealth of potential, the pint-sized runner has no lofty ambitions to pursue a career in athletics just yet.
