TWO Medowie women have taken a swag of awards at the recent National Appaloosa Championships in Dubbo.
The meeting was more than a regular national title though for Sally Cole and Amy Chapman. For Ms Cole, it was the first time she'd ridden in competition in 15 years after being waylayed by a back injury.
But her "delightful" 13-year-old horse TC, whose competition name is Southern Stylish Dreams, has given her the confidence to, as the saying goes, get back on the horse.
Among the awards the pair won at the championships was a national title in the halter classes.
"I've only just started to ride again after a period off of many years," Ms Cole said.
"But TC is a great mate and a super horse. I say he let's me ride him and he's very forgiving."
Ms Chapman's national showing meant it was the first time she had appeared with her horse Memphis since losing another horse in September.
It was also the first time she has trained such a young horse up to show standard. For her effort, Ms Champman earned numerous awards including the two year old hunter hand futurity event and the gelding hunter hand title, beating out 21 other horses.
Like Ms Cole, teaming with the right horse has seen Ms Chapman's passion for the sport return.
She is now going to focus on developing Memphis for Western Pleasure events, which is one of the equestrian disciplines, to build his skill level.
"I'm very happy with how Memphis went," Ms Chapman said.
"He's my little pride and joy at the moment."
