AN alternative approach to training could be the driving force behind the recent success of students attending a Salt Ash equestrian centre.
But a modest Encantador centre owner Gaylene Kates shrugged off responsibility for her students taking home 10 awards at the recent Hunter Valley Arabian Horse Society Twilight show.
"I am like a catalyst for the students," she said.
"I am proud, but they are the ones who do the work and achieve it."
Ms Kates said all 10 of her students who entered the event took home awards.
Ms Kate said she used a different approach when it came to training, preferring one-on-one classes and using background music.
"All sports have a rhythm and at the high levels of dressage they ride to music, the horses love it and the kids love it," she said.
She said the school also focused on teamwork and technique.
"It's not about being the best, it's about teamwork and all aspects of the sport," she said.
