THE Newcastle and Port Stephens Game Fishing Club has written another chapter in the state's record books, winning a fifth consecutive interclub title last weekend.
The club's Team 2, with boats that includedSeaka, Born Free, Gun Runner, Balistic and Diversion, took out the main tag and release event at the state championships.
Identified by club president David Litchfield before the competition as their best chance at a fifth straight title, Team 2 went on to tag more of the 374 game fish captured over the two weekends, than any other team.
"We are obviously very happy to have won it a fifth year in a row," Litchfield said.
"Last year was the first time the same club had won it for four consecutive years.
"It's not just because the sport is popular up here, we have some excellent boats and great crews and the club supports them to the hilt."
This year's champion in the capture division was Team 1 from Lake Macquarie Game Fishing Club.
NSW Game Fishing Association president Don Goswell hailed the event a huge success with 275 marlin tagged over the weekend, more than double the 2009 total.
