WHEN the Australian Touch Football team was having problems finding a suitable location for a weekend training camp, former Port player and now Australian mixed open team member Emma Archer was quick to suggest Port Stephens as the solution.
Archer left in January to take up a position on the Sunshine Coast and the weekend was the first time since the move she has returned to home territory.
"It is boot camp style training so I did not have the chance to catch up with friends and relatives," Archer said.
"But I am planning to return in August."
Archer said she would always be thankful for the start she had in the game at Port Stephens. She said that there was a lot of potentially great players in Port Stephens.
"My move to Queensland gave me the chance to use the start I had," Archer said.
The eight team members from Queensland have trained together but the Port based training camp was the first time the whole team had trained together.
The squad arrived on Saturday morning and was straight onto the training field at the Tomaree complex.
"It was a tough session drills, fitness, everything," Archer said.
A session at Zenith Beach on Sunday morning replaced the planned run up to the Gan Gan Lookout before the squad caught a midday flight from Williamtown.
The International Touch Titles will be played at Tweed Heads in October.
Archer said that the New Zealand team usually provide the toughest competition for the Australians.
