THE PORT Stephens Outrigger Club picked up gold and silver medals when it played host to the NSW championships held off Shoal Bay at the weekend.

The titles saw more than 300 competitors from 14 clubs compete with the Port's novice crews picking up the medals.

On Sunday the inaugural twin peaks challenge was a test of endurance with a crew member climbing both Tomaree and Yacaaba Headlands while team members stood by.

The best results for Port Stephens came in novice women's division with Port teams filling the first two places.

The team placed first was Fiona Warren, Ali Adams, Lisa Crew, Anne Dawson, Barbara Evans and Sue Brennan.

The team of Leslie Kolzman, Cheryl Moss, Anna Malberg, Karen Bell, Estelle Como and Alice Smith came in second.
