PORT Stephens Game Fishing Club is on target to secure a fifth straight NSW Game Fishing Association Interclub Tournament following the first two days of competition.

The first rods were cast on Saturday and competitors raided the waters off Port Stephens, tagging 165 Marlin across the weekend.

Leading the more popular tag and release competition is Team 2 from the Port Stephens Game Fishing Club (PSGFC), followed by the Sydney Game Fishing Club's (SGFC) Team 2 and Lake Macquarie Game Fishing Club's (LMGFC) Team 2.

In the less popular capture tournament LMGFC Team 1 lead the way ahead of SGFC Team 1 and LMGFC Team 3.

A 13-year-old girl has the bragging rights over much of her senior field after pulling in a monster 418kg tiger shark in the capture division, while the largest marlin tipped 118kg.

NSW Game Fishing Association president Don Goswell was thrilled with the opening weekend of the Interclub tournament, which has attracted 191 boats and 850 anglers.
