IN AN effort to tap a rich 70-year history, Raymond Terrace Rugby League Club will hold an old boy's day in conjunction with its final home game on Saturday.
Past players, coaches, administrators and supporters of the club are encouraged to get along to Lakeside Sporting Complex from 4pm to see the Terrace take on the West Maitland Red Dogs.
Organiser Craig Higgins wants to formalise a Raymond Terrace old boy's committee, using this weekend to herd up past devotees of the club.
"It would really be a social thing I guess...we would raise money for the junior and senior teams," he said.
The club's history could play a vital role in the current rebuilding phase at Lakeside.
The club re-entered the Newcastle Rugby League with one senior side in B-grade this season after enduring the upper-Hunter's Group 21 competition last year.
But club president Paul Lidbury said with 20 junior teams the club's future looked bright.
"Ten of the 14 junior teams [in competitions which hold finals] have made the finals series," he said.
"The idea for the seniors is to stay where we are [the Newcastle and Hunter competition] and get more teams."
Raymond Terrace is currently in second place on the B-grade ladder and despite the omission of half-back Daniel Smith (broken knee cap) and hooker Mark Brooks (medial tear) from the starting line-up, they will still start favourites over the Red Dogs in seventh this weekend.
