THE cancellation of a Sydney tournament is set to drive some of the country's most exciting tennis action to this weekend's Easter Open Tournament at Raymond Terrace.
The fourth easter event held at the Raymond Terrace courts is expected to lure around 120 competitors from Friday through Monday, according to club president Chris Maddocks.
The event is sanctioned by Tennis Australia, which means valuable Australian ranking points will go on the line. And with the cancellation of a Western Sydney tournament scheduled for this weekend, Maddocks said some of its players would head up the freeway.
"We are expecting great tennis all weekend," he said. "And it is at no cost to people who want to come and check it out."
The Easter Open is a silver ranked tournament, third highest in Australia, and includes doubles and singles formats in under 18 and open divisions.
Australian top 100 ranked players expected to attend the event are Andrew Thomas (38), Kyle Stoker (68) and Blade Fong (82).
