NELSON Bay's under 14 ranks were the most successful at the world's largest junior touch football tournament held in Woollongong last weekend.
The two-day NSW Junior State Cup drew more than 4000 players from 52 clubs and amongs them were nine Bay teams jostling for state glory.
The Bay's under 14 girls, coached by world class touch referee Scott Dews, managed quarter final berth before Hunter rivals Wallsend ended their campaign 9-2.
The under 14 boys and coach John Wilton ripped through their field before being narrowly edged out by Penrith, 6-5.
Nelson Bay's under 18 boys team had their impressive run through the qualifiers stopped abruptly by a 9-0 loss to Parramatta in the quarter final.
A team spokesman said the club had held its own against the powerhouses of state touch football, particularly the two under 14 teams.
"Both under 14 girls and boys trained and trained for this event and their results indicated that and the level of coaching they both had."
