YOU will have noticed over the past six weeks the continually growing number of kids walking the waterfront with a fishing rod in one hand and a bucket in the other.
Shoal Bay Fishing Club, among others, have realised their future by concentrating on the little people and encouraging families to become members.
Over the years I have been involved in many sports and recreational activites in the Port yet there are none that can draw families together better than fishing.
While on clubs, a request for all secretaries of Fishing Clubs in Port Stephens to forward your contact details to stinkerfishing@yahoo.com.
With a central data base, I will be able to keep you well informed on all the happenings at NSW Fisheries which directly affect fishing in our region.
The completed list will be made available to all clubs.
There are many important issues emerging which need your attention including bag and size limits, State and Federal Marine Park reviews, local boat ramps, water quality and jetties.
Let's get our act together.
It's back to school time and peace has descended upon us. What a great holiday period it has been for all fishers with whiting on all beaches, flathead and bream throughout the harbour and just enough crabs to keep up interest.
Off shore, snapper and mulloway provided a steady stream of quality fishing from Fishermans Bay to Seal Rocks. Teraglin, drummer, groper, sand flathead and kingfish were keen to tango with anyone who chose to target them.
The coming months, until the end of May, will produce some of the best fishing opportunities with all the species previously mentioned ready to rumble off our beaches, headlands and both inside and outside the heads. This really is a fishing paradise.
