AUSTRALIA turned on their Anzac brothers at Nelson Bay Bowling Club on Friday afternoon.
The annual Anzac challenge pits the club's top Australian-made talent against its New Zealand imports in triples, pairs and singles.
Begrudgingly, New Zealand national representative and the club's operations manager Richard Girvan conceded the Aussies were too good.
But he added that they were not the only winners, with a panel of corporate sponsors seated on the green just metres from the playing surface and treated to a thrilling showdown in the final singles match.
"They had an absolute ball and the quality of bowls was really high," Girvan said.
The triples game was split a set each way, but Terry Antram and Soldiers Point representative Jason Pietraszek managed what would be the only definitive result of the evening, overcoming Girvan and Brian Bateman.
Kevin Robinson took out the first singles set for the Kiwis, putting the heat on the Steve Green to save the Australian lead.
Green did not disappoint, taking out the second set and sealing the win for the host nation.
