Fingal clean sweep in bowls challenge

19 May, 2010 11:28 AM
FINGAL Bay Womens Bowls Club has made a clean sweep of the 2010 Peninsula Bowls Championship.

The March championships pits club champions from Fingal, Nelson Bay, Lemon Tree Passage and Soldiers Point clubs against one another in fours, triples, pairs, and major and minor singles formats. One format is traditionally played each weekend from the beginning of the month.

Despite having not played together prior to the club championships the Fingal Bay fours opened the challenge with a three-game, white-wash at Soldiers Point.

That performance paved the way for a triples victory at home, a pairs win at Lemon Tree Passage and eventual victory in the washed-out minor and major singles at Nelson Bay after Easter.

"We've never won all five shields which is wonderful, especially for some of these ladies who haven't played together for long," the club's publicity officer Gwen Harris said.

The championships began in 1984.
