Lemon Tree Passage women bowls break 23-year drought

28 Apr, 2010 11:59 AM
FOR the first time since 1987, Lemon Tree Passage Women's Bowling Club has taken out the district grade 4 pennants flag.

The club's publicity officer Anne Cheetham said the majority of the team were new to the sport and some players were debuting on the pennants scene.

Lemon Tree Passage sealed the win in a three-way round robin against Karuah and Soldiers Point on April 16.

The Lemon Tree Passage ladies will now play in the group D playoffs on the Nelson Bay club greens from May 18 to 20. Meanwhile the Raymond Terrace's ladies pennants team has bettered their runner-up performance of last year.

The side took out the district grade 1 flag.

The Raymond Terrace ladies lost in a round robbin last year.

But they had put last year behind them with a much better performance in this season's first-past-the-post format.

They will also go in search of a group title.
