Rookie title for duo

15 Oct, 2009 01:00 AM
NELSON Bay bowlers Lou Bund and Mark Oldham celebrated a benchmark win in the NSW Rookies event recently.

The competition is open to all members of the Royal NSW Bowling Association, who have been playing for less than two years, and Nelson Bay bowls coordinator Terry Antram said he believed the win was a first for the Hunter.

The duo first won the zone two title back in August and then went on take out the NSW state title at Raymond Terrace on October 5.

They out bowled Entrance bowlers David Denniss and Glen Coleman, winning 10-9.

"I knew we had a good team and Terry [Antram] was good inspiration," Bund said.

"And it was incredible to win, really awesome."

Antram said both players had been in good form for Nelson Bay over the past 18 months and deserved their success.

"They will both push for spots in the top grades for the up coming 2010 pennant season, Lou has had an extremely successful year contesting three club finals this year and winning two of them," Antram said.

"He was also recognised by the Royal earlier in the year with an encouragement award."
