St Michael's student claims State silver medal

04 Nov, 2009 11:45 AM
MAYA Stewart has always been quick on her feet but until last week most did not appreciate her talent.

The St Michael's student at Nelson Bay came back from the NSW primary school's athletics championships with a silver medal in the nine years 100 metres final.

Her time of 15.56 seconds was less than a tenth of a second away from the gold medal winning result of 14.47.

With the exception of a few tips in the lead-up to the championships Maya has had no formal athletics coaching.

She says she may take up Little Athletics but turning out with the Fingal Beach Nippers is her summer sports priority.
