SOLDIERS Point 19-year-old Josh Green has dreamt of earning a crust on board a 300cc motorcycle since he was 12.
Today he will board a plane bound for Dublin where that dream is almost certain to be realised.
Green will be based in the Irish city while he competes for the Electraction TM racing team in the FIM World Enduro Championships, to be held in eight European countries between April and September this year.
Riders race for up to seven hours per day during each two-day leg and are allowed only 15 minutes each day to carry out their own maintenance on their bikes.
"You can have a mechanic help you with liquids, like oils and that sort of thing, but if you break something or something needs replacing, you fix it yourself," he said.
"I have to change my own tyres and everything."
Green caught the eye of talent scout during a six-day enduro race in Portugal last October.
His current deal will expire in September and a two-year deal is on the table, provided he convinces his UK team administrators that he is worth it.
"If I do the right thing by them, which I will, they said there is a two-year deal in it," he said.
"I've dreamt of doing this since I was 12 years old."
Green will race in the junior (under 23) category of enduro racing's showpiece event as well as the British and Irish motocross and enduro circuits before returning to Australia next summer.
As a junior Green has some way to go before securing the large-scale pay deals of the senior ranks.
But he maintains corporate sponsorships and prize money in 2010 will pay the way for an enviable life abroad.
