DONNING the Novocastrian colours for this year's Newcastle Knights Harold Matthews squad will be the highlight of the summer for seven Port teens.
Blake Chaffey, Ricky Schein, Ben Langdon, Jack Beverley, Jayden Eneliko, Dylan Nay and Raymond Terrace under 16s captain Jack Jones were recently selected for the squad.
The boys all play for Raymond Terrace, but hail from all over the Port, including the Tomaree Peninsula and Swan Bay.
The boys were selected after trialling for the side in Newcastle two weeks ago.
More than 70 teenagers were involved in the trials, with 34 selected to take part in a two-day training camp to be held at Myuna Bay Sport and Recreation Centre in December.
The boys this week started training with the Knights development squad and will learn about physical skills, nutrition, managing money, ethics and discipline.
"We're pretty happy about being picked," Raymond Terrace captain Jack said.
"It will be a thrill to put the Knights jersey on."
The boys will play Manly at Wyong on January 16 and said they expected to play well as a team, having made the grand final for Raymond Terrace the past two years running.
