FOR 14 years a Port tournament has been promoting tennis and this year is no different. The Port Stephens Junior Round Robin Tournament will be held at the Nelson Bay Tennis Courts on October 24 and 25.
Tournament secretary Ellen Gordon said the competition was open to all players under the age of 18 as at the end of October.
The tournament is also part of the Tennis NSW Medibank State Series and means players can gain points for the state leader board ranking for juniors.
Gordon said the event was begun by her late husband David as a way to encourage Port residents and visitors to Port Stephens.
"We aim to provide a healthy tennis sporting event for local players, grow the sport in Port Stephens and provide a player opportunity for those who may want to progress to higher levels," she said.
Organised by volunteers on behalf of the Port Stephens Tennis Association, the round robin gives juniors a full day of play and value for money. Players from Port Macquarie, Scone, Sydney, Canberra and Victoria have attended.
