A season-and-a-half after the Tomaree Triathlon Club (TTC) barely existed, it is verging on tipping its 80-racer limit.
Despite foul weather on the last two TTC race days, more than 50 people showed up at the Soldiers Point Course.
With mostly sunny conditions forecast for this Sunday's December race, the club's publicity officer Carl Leonard is expecting an influx from the Hunter's triathlon community.
"If it is good weather this weekend we might even reach our limit for the club," he said.
The club struggled to survive in season 2007-08 but began rebuilding last season.
With Australian's performing well at the top level of the sport, Leonard said the TTC were enjoying the sport's growing popularity.
They include two-time Hawaiian Ironman winner Craig Alexander and Olympic gold medalist Emma Snowsill.
"Craig Alexander and Emma Snowsill are certainly sending the right messages."
The club's long-course race includes a 500m open water swim near Salamander Shores, a 20km bike ride through Soldiers Point and a six kilometre run.
Leonard stressed the importance of the club's family mentality and younger or less experienced racers were caterered for by short-course race, half the distance of the long-course.
