Lauren Funnell to represent Hunter

04 Nov, 2009 12:48 PM
TOMAREE High School student Lauren Funnell is set for a big aqua challenge after being selected in a Newcastle region water polo side.

The 14 year old is in the under 17 years side to compete at the NSW Combined High Schools championships at Glenbrook later this month.

Lauren trains seven times a week and plays water polo every Monday at the Tomaree Aquatic Centre.

She is also training for her bronze medallion with the Birubi Surf Life Saving Club.

The team will be playing at Glenbrook for four days November 24 to 27.

Lauren has been playing water polo since she was nine when Stuart King from the Birubi club decided members needed a sport to stay fit during winter.

So members from the club started playing every Sunday afternoon through winter.

A team in the summer competition soon followed with Lauren playing ever since.
