A JOINT partnership between two autism groups on different sides of the world is set to give 83 Port children the experience of a lifetime.
Hunter Connect, a not-for-profit group which supports families of Autistic children, and an U.S based organisation Surfers for Autism, will team up to give 200 autistic children, including 83 from Port Stephens the chance to learn to surf with leading surf instructors.
SFA is a not-for-profit group dedicated to the introduction of surfing to children with special needs.
The opportunity to stage the event came to hand by chance, after a mutual contact paired Hunter Connect with Surfers for Autism, who were looking to showcase this event somewhere around the world.
"SFA's concept is new and exciting and it really resonates with our families, our surfing culture, and our organisation," Hunter Connect co-founder Sam Hays said.
"It will be a blessing to the whole community."
Formed in May of 2007, SFA has been hosting events all over the Southeast of the United States.
"The group has always had an international eye, and when the opportunity to partner with Hunter Connect presented itself, there was no hesitation," Mr Hays said.
The event will be held on Saturday at Newcastle's Nobbys foreshore.
